MICROSCHOOLING

FULL TIME

A HOMESCHOOL OPTION FOR FULL TIME WORKING FAMILIES

Our full time microschooling program is designed to provide full-time working families the opportunity to provide their children an educational experience that blends many of the benefits of both homeschool and a small private school. A small, personalized experience and supportive environment are at the heart of what we offer alongside the support and insight that a trained and experienced educator provides. Our class will consist of learners ages 6-10, with ability based small group learning, as well as collaborative whole group learning opportunities.

Monday through Thursday students will focus on core curriculum content. Core curriculum refers to foundational English language arts, math, science, and history. This takes place through a combination of whole group, small group, and independent learning. This primarily takes place throughout the morning. Core days also include project based learning units, passion projects, and/or independent learning units.

Curriculum has been selected for part time hybrid and full time microschool students to use. This will be purchased through Evergreen using a paid curriculum fee. Selections were made through careful considerations regarding the academic rigor, level of engagement, alignment to research and best practices, and the supports available for in person and at home implementation. Purchased core curriculum programs will include PRIDE Reading & Spelling Program, Essentials in Writing, and Beast Academy Math. Additional curricular materials in reading (such as literature and informational texts), science, and history will be included in project based and thematic units.

Planning will be based on a four day week instructional model for all students at Evergreen. Full-time microschooling students will engage in their academic work Monday through Thursday. “Fun Friday” enrichment is included in the tuition rates for full time students. In person learning will take place during our school day, with the anticipated hours of 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Our lead teacher is well trained to support a wide range of learners. As a licensed intervention specialist with a gifted endorsement, she is trained and experienced in differentiating to meet the needs of unique learners. Education at Evergreen is not “one size fits all”. We recognize that a significant draw of homeschooling is the ability to match and adapt learning to the abilities and needs of students and seek to implement that type of differentiation.

We also recognize that kids deserve the opportunity to be kids and to engage in learning and behaviors that are developmentally appropriate. Throughout the day, students will have the opportunity to build, play, explore, create, and socialize in ways that are reflective of their ages, interests, and abilities. While we believe in high expectations for learning, we also believe in supporting student autonomy and fostering an environment that supports and celebrates the joys of being a kid.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

We heed what research says on how the brain learns to read and therefore offer a structured phonics and morphology program. Learning sounds, patterns, structures, and meanings does not happen by chance.

We also offer direct writing instruction focusing on grammar and composition.

Reading comprehension is addressed through literature units, which also includes integrated science and history texts. This gives students the opportunity to authentically engage with high quality, rich texts.

MATH

We prioritize math curriculum that not only teaches necessary skills, but also logic and problem solving. We ensure that students have opportunities to develop critical thinking skills in all subjects.

SCIENCE AND HISTORY

Science and history texts are integrated into literature and project based units to intentionally connect student learning across subjects.

Students will also experience hands on STEM learning.

PBL, PASSION PROJECTS, & INDEPENDENT LEARNING

All of these types of learning opportunities put the students in control. Students are expected to meaningfully engage with their learning in order to problem solve and create.
