FLEXIBILITY IN CURRICULUM AND GROUPING

PROJECT BASED LEARNING AND COLLABORATION

GUIDANCE FROM AN EXPERIENCED EDUCATOR

As an independent microschool, we have the freedom and flexibility to truly provide an education that is right for kids. Children deserve an education that prepares them not only to navigate a modern world, but to change it. A meaningful education should provide them the knowledge and skills so that they can do just that. We seek to provide that through a flexible small group setting, authentic project based learning, and guidance from an experienced educator.

WHO WE SERVE

We serve students ages 6-10 in a small group setting. A mixed age, small group setting allows us flexibility to deliver targeted instruction that meets the pacing and challenge needs of all students.

Rather than following a one size fits all pacing guide or strictly adhering to "grade level standards", students are able to move through content and skills that match their readiness and interest levels and they are grouped accordingly.

Our small size also ensures that students get the support that they need in areas of challenge.

Perhaps most important of all is the community that a small group setting provides. Meaningful connections and relationships can be built in small settings, laying the foundation for authentic friendships and trust.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that young learners are capable and deserving of opportunities for independence. We recognize them as the next generation of world changers and see education as the foundation for them to develop the skills and understanding to be able to do just that. Through rigorous curriculum and a focus on authentic learning opportunities, we aim to provide students what they need to fulfill their own callings. We believe that learning should be both interesting and fun and strive to build a culture of lifelong learning among our students.

We believe that each child is unique and that learning extends beyond a desk and outside of classroom walls. We believe in exploring nature, and encouraging lots of playtime. Children are not designed to sit and listen and take directions 5-6 hours a day. They need the freedom to imagine, invent, communicate, and create. We believe in a small multi family setting, where children have the opportunity to build together and learn from one another. We also firmly believe each child should have the opportunity to grow and flourish in whatever it is that sparks their innate interests. We are inspired by the authenticity and hands-on approaches of many pedagogical philosophies and styles that value both the individual and community, such as Montessori, Reggio Emelia, John Dewey, Project Based Learning and more.
